Tavdi Village, Gujurat

The Tavdi is a beautiful village inhabited on the shores of the River Purna in South Gujarat State, India. It is only seven miles from the city of Navsari.

The population of Tavdi is approximately four to five thousand, and almost two to three thousand of Tavadia's living abroad in countries like the UK, New Zealand, Canada, USA, and South Africa.

All these brothers and sisters of Tavdi are united, kind, generous, friendly and "VERY PROUD TO BE TAVADIAS"

The Full Education Report from Vanita

TAVDI SAMELAN 2010 HELD AT THE SHREE MANDHATA SAMAJ IN LEICESTER U.K.

Education project is running successfully. Brief Update ON Costings and Works Carried Out.

IT WAS VERY IMPORTANT THAT WE UPGRADED THE SCHOOL WITH THE BASIC FACILITIES AND FOR THAT PURPOSE WE ASKED FOR DONATIONS AND THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR THAT.

1. All THE VILLAGERS INCLUDING THE HEADTEACHER USED TO COMPLAIN THAT THERE WAS NO COMPOUND WALL AND THE BUFFALOS USED TO GET INTO THE SCHOOL AND EAT ALL THE PLANTS. CHILDREN USED TO GET DISTRACTED SO WE BUILT COMPOUND WALLS COSTING AROUND £2000.

2. SCHOOL HAD DIRTY WALLS AND DARK ROOMS SO WE REPAINTED THE WHOLE SCHOOL AND REPAIRED ALL ELECTRIC COSTING AROUND £1200

3.THE SCHOOL TOILETS WERE NOT IN GOOD STATE, HAD LACK OF WATER SUPPLY SO WE DUG UP A WELL, UPGRADED PLUMBING COSTING AROUND £300.

4. THE SCHOOL PLAYGROUND USE TO GET MUDDY IN THE RAINY SEASON SO WE LAID CONCRETE FLOOR THIS COSTING AROUND £1000.

5. SCHOOL HAS BROKEN WINDOW AND DOORS WHICH WERE REPLACED COSTING AROUND £1200.

6. ALL THESE EXPENSES TOTALLED TO THE SUM AMOUNT OF £6000.

YOU MAY KNOW THAT WE HAVE SEVEN CLASSES IN OUR SCHOOL BUT ONLY 5 TEACHERS SO HEAD TEACHERS AND VILLAGERS REQUESTED FOR TWO TEACHERS.AND AFTER A LOT OF DISCUSSION OUR COMMITTEE AGREED TO SUPPLY ONE EXTRA TEACHER WHICH IS COSTING AROUND £400 PER YEAR. THANKS TO KISHORE BHAI FOR HIS DONATION FOR THIS.

SO A FAIR LOT OF WORK DONE SO FAR AND AS MANY OF YOU MAY HAVE SEEN OR HEARD OUR VILLAGE SCHOOL IS CLEAN WITH BASIC FACILITIES.

THIS MAY SOUND A LITTLE BASIC BUT IS A VAST IMPROVEMENT AND IF YOU WERE TO VISIT THE VILLAGE YOU WOULD NOTICE THE CHANGE IN VIEWS TOWARDS THE EDUCATION ACCORDING TO VILLAGERS.

PLEASE BE NOTED THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING PROJECT AND THERE IS STIIL LOT OF THINGS WE NEED TO DO AND AS I HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY WOULD KINDLY ASK YOU ALL THAT SHOULD YOU WISH TO DONATE TO THIS SUCCESSFUL PROJECT.

PLEASE EMAIL bharat7@btinternet.com

I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO THANK VANITA FOR HER CONTRIBUTION FOR GOING ALL THE WAY TO TAVDI AND TEACHING AT OUR VILLAGE SCHOOL. AN EXCELLENT CONTRIBUTION AND A PERFECT EXAMPLE FOR US.

Once again Thank you for all your support

School project nearly completed but still more funds to raise.

Barrier Wall at Tavdi Village

Work on the barrier wall is now almost complete. About three quarters of the work has been completed with the help of the Indian Government.

Whilst some work remains, the barrier will hopefully prevent the serious flooding that occured recently.

The village is waiting for the government to approve the remaining work.

Our photos show completed works on the barrier wall.
